LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
LG counter-depth refrigerators provide plenty of storage into a small footprint. They're also priced more affordably than many standard-depth French door refrigerators and eliminate the necessity for a separate, smaller under-counter freezer. The LG Smart Mirror InstaView Counter-Depth Refrigerator (LMWC23626S) is a refrigerator that has the capacity of a standard fridge in an elegant and contemporary design, is no exception. It also has an internal dispenser that allows for easy access to filtered drinking water.
This model's exterior showcases a fingerprint-resistant stainless steel finish and a mirrored InstaView panel that adds to the modern look of the interior. The door bins are spacious of space, and the top shelf can fold down to create a half-depth shelf that can accommodate larger items. The bottom of the refrigerator includes a set of more crisp drawers, and the full width deli drawer is perfect for meat or fresh produce.

The refrigerator is equipped with a recessed Icemaker that is located on the back wall. This reduces space and lets you store more bags of ice. The refrigerator uses door cooling systems that makes use of vents on the freezer and fridge door to let cold air into. It helps to prevent hot spots and helps keep temperatures more uniform throughout the fridge.
This LG refrigerator is a standout in our tests, and comes with plenty of space to feed a family, but it does have some quirks that we found annoying. First, the freezer drawers don't stay as cold as we'd like. The middle drawer sat at 41 degrees during our highest test of use, which is warm enough to serve ice cream and other frozen items. The temperature of the rest of the freezer remained about 36 degrees.
Another issue is that the refrigerator doors have handles that are sunken on the inside and underneath which makes it difficult for those who are smaller to guide them closed. It may seem like a minor issue, but we prefer front-mounted handles on refrigerators to make them easier to open and shut.
This fridge is a bit pricey, but it's worth the money for anyone looking to have an ultra-sleek look in their kitchen. We recommend this refrigerator for those who want to upgrade their refrigerator, or for those who are building a new house and want a more integrated design in the kitchen.
Samsung Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
Samsung's newest counter-depth French-door fridge model, the RF23M8090SG is priced at $4200. It's a good-looking model that boasts useful features like an autofill water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It also does well in our cooling tests, though we're not too fond of its plastic handles and the bins that are crisper are a bit flimsy.
One thing that sets the RF23M8090SG apart is its Bespoke line, which lets you customize your fridge by removing colored panels that can be swapped out whenever you get tired of the current ones. There are 11 colors to choose from including soft pastels, brighter hues and four metallic finishes. Some of these panels can be customized by adding photos or text, making the fridge a more personal feature that can be matched to your tie-dye Crocs, Rick Owens dress or Andy Warhol banana neon sign.
You can even alter the color of the fridge's LED lighting, which is nice. The interior of the refrigerator features a smart finish which reduces smudges, and makes cleaning easier. The only negatives to the RF23M8090SG are its slightly cramped beverage center as well as an incline to learn curve in opening the door-in-door feature that houses a water jug and a dispenser. You need to look for an opening on the underside of the door halfway across, and when you have it the lever, it opens a second door within the fridge that contains the pitcher docking station, the water dispenser and two shelves for drinks.
The 6.8 cubic feet freezer compartment is big enough to store plenty of frozen food items. It also features an open drawer that allows you to access the food you need without having to open the entire compartment. The freezer also comes with a butter-bin style compartment to store small items, as well as a large capacity storage drawer that can store bulkier frozen foods. This drawer can be locked with the use of a password to keep out unwanted guests and has an attractive LED light to let you see what's inside in a glance. The freezer can also monitor energy consumption and help you reduce your energy consumption with the SmartThings with smart-enabled Energy mode.
Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
French door refrigerators give a clean design to any kitchen, and they are suitable for different sizes of rooms. Counter-depth refrigerators are the best option if you want this look, but without the height. We've tested a lot of them, and this particular Frigidaire model has earned an above-average score in our ratings due to its affordable price and thoughtful features, such as an adjustable temperature drawer.
It also has some annoying problems. Our tests show that the FGHB2866PF warms up quite some in the freezer, and could get uncomfortable warm in the fridge's interior shelving. That's reflected in our heat maps, which show how interior temps fluctuate minute by minute. The orange area in the upper right, which represents the butter bin, is particularly warm throughout the time we tested. It may not appear to be a problem initially however, the fridge spends the majority of its time at 32 degrees.
It's also worth noting that the FGHB2866PF isn't an Energy Star-certified model, which may be a factor for certain buyers. But the real problem here is that it's just not a great fridge, and the lack of advanced features and durable construction makes it difficult to recommend over more expensive options in this price range.
In many ways, this Frigidaire feels like the stainless-steel version of a fridge you might see at your local appliance store. It's a safe choice with a polished finish that looks nice and is resistant to smudges, but it does not stand out or differentiate itself from other brands with more features and more affordable.
If you're looking for a budget counter-depth French door refrigerator and do not have the money to spend a lot on our top choices and the FGHC2331PF is worth looking into. It has enough storage to meet the needs of most families and does an excellent job of keeping food fresh. Even even if it's not an energy efficient unit, it's a lot cheaper than our best-rated models.
